At Tearfund we believe that poverty is not part of God’s plan – we are – and that restoring what is broken is never straightforward. It requires long-term vision and investment in sustainable solutions that lift people out of poverty so they can reach their God-given potential. And it takes committed people to walk alongside this life-changing work for the long haul.

This is what the World of Difference community is all about. A group of 1500 New Zealanders who give whatever they can monthly and whose support makes it possible for our partners to plan longer term and find innovative ways to improve their communities. Watch this video to learn more.

Our partner in Sri Lanka is just one example of how ongoing support creates sustainable change.

In 2011, we began partnering with a dairy farming programme after the civil war that supported just eight farmers. Today, it has grown to support more than 6,000 farmers and allows them to earn a stable income, care for their families, and plan for the future. They are now able to support themselves through changes in the economy and are much less vulnerable to trafficking and exploitation. Whatsmore, the programme is so successful that it will soon be self-sustaining! Tearfund is due to stop financially supporting it in June 2026.

This is just one example of transformation from around the world that is the result of ongoing support.

In 2025, World of Difference donors helped provide:

1158 individual and group counselling sessions for people living in Domiz Refugee Camp in Iraq.

370 women in Afghanistan with training in finances, leadership and marketing so they could start their own businesses together.

210 households in Nepal with the support needed to start their own commercial farming, livestock rearing, and small businesses to increase their household income.

12 communities in Fiji have developed a Community Action Plan/safety net.

786 people in Myanmar attended training to learn more about trafficking and how to stay safe
