Sign the Rubbish Petition

Plastic pollution is a serious threat to people and our environment. Two billion people have no safe way to dispose of rubbish, and people in poverty suffer the worst impacts of this rubbish problem. They are forced to live and work among piles of waste. It is making them sick, releasing toxic fumes, and contributing to flooding in their communities. Tearfund’s research reveals it's causing up to a million deaths each yeari.

On the flip side, individuals from these communities are playing a crucial role in helping us address this rubbish problem. Roughly 60% of all plastic recycled globally is collected by individuals working as waste-pickersii. They salvage and resell the reusable and recyclable materials others have thrown away.

Jesus told his followers that even the smallest amount of faith can move mountains.

So, we are asking you to put your faith into action and join us in demanding an end to plastic pollution. And we have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to do just that.

During 2023 and 2024, nearly 200 governments are meeting to develop the first-ever global treaty on plastic pollution. But it’s not a done deal and we want to make sure it includes plans to make the transition to a low-plastic economy just and fair for the individuals and communities that rely on plastic for their livelihoods.

Poverty is not God’s plan. You are.
