Donate money, not food or other goods

The best thing you can do is to donate money to our appeal. Sending goods can cost more than the value of the goods themselves, and they can clog up airports and docks and slow down essential life-saving items from getting to people in need. Donations allow us to buy supplies from local markets, which is quicker and cheaper than sending them from New Zealand and also supports the local economy.


If you’re wanting to volunteer in the affected area, unfortunately Tearfund doesn’t send volunteers as part of our humanitarian response due to significant health hazards and limited in-country resources. However, here are some other options:
