Nine schools in northern Vietnam urgently need flood repairs, so 2,600 students can return to full-time learning. Desks, chairs and books were destroyed, and classrooms are unsafe. Local recovery resources are exhausted. But with your support, Tearfund’s partner can repair buildings, replace furniture, classroom materials and distribute household supplies to 500 vulnerable families.

What’s happening in Thai Nguyn province?

At the end of October, Typhoons Bualoi and Matmo struck northern Vietnam, triggering catastrophic flooding and landslides. Homes were destroyed, crops were lost, roads were washed away. Floodwater devastated nine schools, ruining students’ desks, chairs and books. Mould now covers classroom walls. Some buildings have structural damage and can’t be safely used. Sadly local recovery resources have been exhausted, and without outside support, schools have no means to recover. Tearfund’s partner is the only organisation in the area responding.
 


Why this matters

Education gives children stability, opportunity and hope.

Right now, 2,600 children from these communities can’t return to school. Families are doing their best to recover, but many are still struggling to rebuild their homes and livelihoods.

Without urgent repairs and school supplies, these children risk falling further behind in their education.

 

How is Tearfund responding?

With your support, Tearfund’s local partner will:

 Replace water-damaged desks, chairs and classroom furniture

 Repaint and treat mould-affected walls

 Rebuild damaged structures to make schools safe again

 Provide food and household supplies to 500 vulnerable families

 This practical support will help schools become fully operational so children can return to learning as soon as possible.
