Back-to-back earthquakes have hit Venezuela killing thousands and displacing many.

As rescue teams continue searching through the rubble, the full scale of the devastation is still unfolding. Many families have lost loved ones, homes, and everything they own. They urgently need safe shelter, food, and other essentials as they begin to face the aftermath of this tragedy.

Our response

We’ve been working to identify the most effective way to support people affected by the earthquakes. We have identified two church partners, the Evangelical Council of Venezuela and the Venezuelan Baptist Convention, that are trusted and well placed to respond within their communities.

Your gift today will help equip the local church to provide emergency shelter, food, medical care, and emotional support to families who have lost so much. Together, we can stand with these communities as they begin the long road to recovery.


What’s happening in Venezuela?

 A 7.2 magnitude earthquake, followed by a 7.5 quake, hit Venezuela on the 24 June. The death toll continues to climb and is expected to increase drastically over the coming days as recovery efforts continue.

 An estimated 58,000 buildings have been destroyed or damaged.

 As well as dealing with grief and trauma, at least 15,000 people have been displaced after losing their homes and belongings. Many others are afraid to return as aftershocks continue.

 Our local church partners are preparing to open their doors to provide shelter, food and supplies to those who can’t return to their homes. They just need your help to do it.

A Prayer for the People of Venezuela

Heavenly Father, 

We lift before you the people of Venezuela as they face the devastating aftermath of the earthquakes. We grieve with those who have lost loved ones, pray for those who are injured, and ask that you would draw close to every family who has lost their home, their possessions, or their sense of security. 

Lord, bring comfort to those who are mourning, strength to those who are exhausted, and hope to those who feel overwhelmed by loss. Give wisdom, courage, and endurance to the emergency teams working tirelessly to save lives. 

We pray for Tearfund's local partners, as they respond in challenging conditions. Give them the resources they need, keep them safe, and use them to bring practical help, compassion, and the hope of Christ to those who need it most. 

May those who have lost so much know that they are not forgotten. Help communities to support one another, and may your peace and presence be felt even in the midst of heartbreak. 

We ask that, through the generosity of people around the world, families will receive the food, shelter, medical care, and emotional support they urgently need.
