Slavery has no place in today’s world.

We need your help to get a law that stops slavery, not just reports it.
27.6 million people around the world are trapped in forced labour, including in the supply chains of products Kiwis buy every day. Right now, there is no law in New Zealand requiring large companies to prevent or address this exploitation.
But together we have a chance to fix this!
A Modern Slavery Bill has passed its first reading and is before a Parliamentary Select Committee. This Bill will require large companies to be more transparent and report on slavery risks in their supply chains. BUT, companies are not required to take any action to address or prevent exploitation and slavery when it’s found.
This law would shine a light on modern slavery, but it is unlikely to stop it.
Right now, the government is asking New Zealanders what they think of the Bill before it is finalised. This is the moment that will determine whether the law delivers real protection for workers, or not.
Tearfund is collecting submissions asking for the Modern Slavery Bill to be strengthened, so it actually stops slavery. Add your voice by making a submission below, asking for one simple change: require companies to take action to prevent and address modern slavery, not just report it.
