Tearfund asked female humanitarian photographers from New Zealand and around the world, to share their favourite empowering image and story of a mother who left a lasting impression on them. 

Matthew Valentine spent 14-years of his life as a detective with the New Zealand Police. Little did he know his passion for fighting crime would take him to the streets of Thailand working for an organisation fighting human trafficking. 

From a desert in northern Columbia to a rainforest in Peru, these sponsored children live in diverse and challenging communities. But amid daily hardships, these four children find beauty in where they live.  

A health diagnosis, conflict on the Thailand-Myanmar border near Teedoh’s family home, rising food prices and depleting food supplies combined to push the mother of three to the brink. But in the face of adversity, Tearfund’s partner provided a glimmer of hope. 

God has hidden people on his radar and that they are not forgotten by Him – and should not be overlooked by us as we are called to follow in Jesus’ footsteps in caring for the vulnerable.
