Ukraine is in crisis, and over a million people have been displaced as intense conflict with Russian forces sweeps across the country. As the Ukrainian people face imminent danger, children and families are fleeing for their lives to nearby countries where our partners are mobilising to help them in their time of greatest need.  

The death and injury tolls are climbing fast, especially among the many who have stayed or been unable to get out. Tearfund’s partners are responding to the needs of Ukrainian refugees who have crossed the borders and for those who remain.

What’s happening in Ukraine?

  • Ukraine’s military is fighting back as Russia surrounds key cities, including the capital, Kyiv. 
  • Millions of Ukrainians are pouring over the borders to seek refuge in neighbouring countries.   
  • Inside Ukraine, many are displaced, scared, cold and at risk of death or injury.   

Tearfund’s partners are helping to:  

  • Provide enough medicine to treat over 11,000 people.
  • Provide emergency shelter for 12,000 people fleeing from conflict zones.
  • Support refugees arriving in neighbouring countries with health screening, linking refugees to local families willing to host them, and providing protection from exploitation.
