Here are just a few of the transformations we’ve seen this year:

56 trafficking victims were rescued from slavery
1,650 Syrian refugee children continued their education
107 savings groups created to lift rural families out of poverty

As we enter a new year, we are committed to seeing even more transformations happen in all corners of the world—from refugees in Lebanon, to farmers in Sri Lanka and to garment workers in Bangladesh.

Would you help spread joy to all corners of the world this Christmas?

Roula’s story: Finding joy again through the love of the local church

Before the war in Syria, Roula was happily married with a wonderful home, three happy children and a baby on the way. That was until ISIS came and forced them to run for their lives.

“As we were leaving, snipers shot at me. I was holding my son across my chest when a bullet went through his shoulder to his heart....My father rushed us to the hospital, but by the time we got there, my son was dead. Then, my father went back to our home and was killed. In 30 minutes, I had lost my son and my father.”

30 minutes—that’s all it took to break Roula’s life into a thousand pieces.

Arriving in Lebanon did not put an end to her suffering. Roula and her family had to share one tent with several others. Her girls were not able to attend school and she didn’t have enough money to meet even their basic needs. Depression and hopelessness began to set in.

Our partner in Lebanon provided Roula with fuel for the winter and food when they needed it. They also helped get her girls back in school. Their help was crucial to the family’s survival, but Roula says it was the love she felt from the church that helped bring joy back into her life.

When we first met Roula, she was exhausted, grieving, and losing hope. Now, the smile on her face says it all:

The church has given me hope and made me feel loved. I now have a job as the supervisor in a preschool [run by the church Tearfund partners with], and I’m able to provide for my daughters....because of the church and because of Jesus, I was something, and now I’m something else. I have a new purpose and a chance to help other children. I thank God and this project and anyone who has contributed to it.
