What’s happening in Haiti?

  • Haiti was struck by a 7.2 magnitude earthquake on Saturday 14th August (local time).
  • Over 2000 fatalities, 7000 injured, tens of thousands homeless and displaced.
  • Haiti’s health system is in crisis, with several hospitals damaged and destroyed
  • Earthquake survivors need urgent medical attention, while the country struggles to cope with several hundred new cases of Covid-19 every week
Tearfund is responding right now in Haiti to address the urgent health needs, provide food, water and shelter materials.

Your immediate response will rush lifesaving supplies to devastated communities.

What’s happening in Afghanistan?

  • The humanitarian situation in Afghanistan continues to deteriorate rapidly as the country becomes more unstable.
  • 550,000 Afghans have been displaced from their homes and communities since January 2021. That number will have certainly increased with the change in government.
  • Even prior to the fall of Kabul on the 15th August, one in three people in Afghanistan were going hungry – that’s 14 million people, including 2 million children who are malnourished.
Tearfund has long-established partners inside Afghanistan who are well positioned to respond to those in need. Our partners are currently running a mobile medical clinic to treat internally displaced people. Our partner is also providing food aid for those who have very little to eat, and a safe shelters for women and children from abusive and exploited backgrounds.

Your funds will ensure that our partner is able to provide this relief and protection to the highly vulnerable in Afghanistan.

How can you help?

Will you please give to help people suffering in Haiti and Afghanistan?
  • $100 provides safe drinking water to 2 Haitian families for three months.
  • $120 provides safe shelter to 4 victims of abuse or exploitation in Afghanistan.
  • $200 supports a Mobile Medical Clinic in Afghanistan for a week, supporting Internally Displaced People.

Pray with us

Lord, our Afghan neighbours are weeping, so may we weep with those who weep. May we open our hearts to them and invest in activity that can serve and protect those most vulnerable.

Father, be present and near to those in Haiti now, dealing with severe weather on the back of a terrible earthquake. Thank you for all who are able to give urgent support, and we pray for the longer-term rebuilding and for your Church to have active and generous compassion.

Please give what you can today.

All donations are used as designated. However, due to the unstable nature of the situation, if our partners in Afghanistan are unable to continue their work, funding will be used in the surrounding region to support people forced to flee there, or applied to a similar crisis project.
