Insight Advocate Tour
It is with great excitement that I write to you inviting you to join Bruce Morriss and me on our 2010 Advocate Tour of India. India is a fascinating country and so full of contrasts: beauty and squalor; rich and poor; religious and hedonist... i could go on... but suffice to say that India struggles with unimaginable poverty next door to incredible wealth.
It is also a country that TEAR Fund operates in many places through child sponsorship, microenterprise and community development. Join me and go beneath the surface as we see the good development work TEAR Fund is involved with.
When: March 8-22nd 2010
Estimated Cost: $3,800-$4,200
Applications Close: January 10

• I promise you that nothing will increase your passion as an Advocate for the poor, like seeing with your very own eyes the transformation of lives.
• In Delhi we will be visiting our partner Asha and their work in the Mayapuri Slum Health & Development Project. Eleven slums are perched across a thin strip of land between rail tracks and a car junk yard. Here Asha is bringing hope and healthcare, to the 2,500 families who call this home. We will also make a day trip to visit the Taj Mahal.
• In the State of Maharastra we will be visiting the work of Eficor and seeing the wonderful work being done with water in a very drought prone region, which is home to the poorest tribal groups in India.
• We will be travelling first class by train to Mumbai through the night. You cannot visit India without experiencing a decent train trip. Believe me there will be plenty to see as the day dawns.
• In Mumbai we will be visiting the outstanding work of Saahassi who are tackling poverty through microenterprise. The women are empowered through learning how to run small credit cooperatives.
• The balance of our time will be in the South Indian city of Bangalore where we will be visiting Compassion child sponsorship centres. We will see mums in the Child Survival Project & learn how the survival of children starts in the womb with their mothers. We will visit child sponsorship projects and see how the children's needs are met holistically. And we will enjoy a relaxed meal with some Leadership Development Students and see how future leaders are being raised.
• On our final day in Bangalore it will be my greatest pleasure to introduce you to my childhood home and have you join me in a service at St John's Church where my dad was the Padre for many years. It may be a bit emotional.
